my top 5 fave romantic movies of all time

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy
Celine: I believe if there's any kind of God it wouldn't be in any of us, not you or me but just this little space in between. If there's any kind of magic in this world it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible to succeed but who cares really? The answer must be in the attempt.

 Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder
Lelaina Pierce: I was really going to be somebody by the time I was 23.
Troy Dyer: Honey, all you have to be by the time you're 23, is yourself.
Lelaina Pierce: I don't know who that is anymore.
Troy Dyer: I do. And we all love her. I love her. She breaks my heart again and again. But I love her.

Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles
Kat Stratford: I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek

Alex Whitman: [Isabel tells Alex she's pregnant] But we were only together one night
Isabel Fuentes: That's all it took.
Alex Whitman: And I used a condom. Lots of them.
Isabel Fuentes: Well, one didn't work
Alex Whitman: But that's it's job! It's whole purpose in life is... to work.

George Clooney and Michelle Pfifer
Jack: What would you do if I kissed you right now?
Melanie: You wouldn't kiss me.
Jack: But what would you do if i did?
Melanie: Do you wanna kiss me right now?
Jack: I wouldn't've mentioned it if didn't.

a teacher's life is like that.

it's my birthday! and im happy to be OLDER.  my age is the last day in the calendar. it means this year is my last hope of getting hitched.  charlie's ecstatic! he looks forward to my birthdays and is counting the years when i get to be his age. he stopped counting his age when he reached 45. now he is just glad i'm gaining on him.  im now 31 and he is 45. next year i'll be 32 and he is 45 forever. hahahaha!

balloons.cake.laeng.pringles.chicharon. notes. birthday songs. banners, books.

i have to tell you that as a teacher i have mixed emotions about my birthday. i am excited because it means i get gifts (yes, i am normal). at the same time i also dread it because i do not like the attention.

let me recall my past birthdays in the high school...

2001

i was new. no moderating class. birthday greetings from everyone! :)

2002

my 3D greeted me plus a cartolina full of wishes. di pa yata uso cake. haha! i remember this class with fondness.

2003

i remember inviting my hs buddies home for my birthday. i cannot forget fr. xavier eating sili with his rice! i think the sap volunteers gave me cake and wish notes.

2004

i dont remember this year.  how come?

2005

i didnt have a moderating class then. what i remember was the jesuits giving me food gifts. and i think my lc 3 gave me a cake..

2006

my lc 3 started my day with a single red rose on top of my desk. the rose had an unfinished quote. when i entered my class, a student handed me another rose with another unfinished quote, so on and so forth until the bell rang for lunch. then they asked me to go to Ana's Kitchen. when i entered, ganzan started to sing happy birthday and everybody joined in. hahaha! they had a cake and melted ice cream which they devoured. i got the last of the rose series. uhm.. i should have kept the quotes.

my pongracz bees gave me two cakes which they ate. hahahaha!

2007

my pongracz bees unfolded a happy birthday tarp and we ate at mcdonalds!
my 3 gees gave me a bucket of long stem red roses which i offered at mama mary's altar.

2008

my real class sang happy birthday twice! hahaha! cakes, balloons and notes, the works.
my 3 gees now sanvitores gave me two great books to read.
the osasi team gave me a connie talbot cd (nitz), wild spice pringles (vest), wooden mug from benguet (gerlie) and laeng! (irmo).
tikay cooked a yummy crispy chicharon for me!

it's nice being a teacher. you get appreciated more than the usual. hehe.

thank you kids. you are actually the gift.

what is a bulletin board?

One of the first objects a teacher sees when she enters the classroom is the bulletin board. I dont know with other teachers but I find that a bulletin board speaks a lot about what kind of class I will be dealing with. A bulletin board is a work of art, a product of collective effort, a visual representation of a class' past, present and future. It does not define the class but it gives me a hint as to the kind of persons i face each day.

This school year, I regret to see bulletin boards that are so bad, it robs me of enthusiasm to teach. In XUHS, a teacher is confronted everyday with that piece of board on the wall. If a class is smart, they could use that board to their advantage. Make it their PR statement. Tell the teacher indirectly that they are students willing to learn and they deserve an excellent teacher. I wonder why students dont think like this. One reason may be is that they do not face  that part of the wall most of the time so they dont notice what an eyesore it is if decorated badly.

Some bulletin boards start of with really good intentions. But many times it seems like the students may have a mistaken notion of what the board is for. When the moderator tells them to decorate the bulletin board what they actually do is cover it with all kinds of colored paper, and leave it at that, as if expecting the board to actually finish the job by itself.

So what is a bulletin board? According to this site, it is a useful way to make information available, to create interest in events, ideas, or products, to create motivation to read and to display artwork and other paper items of interest.

Students would tell me that they are too busy to bother with a bulletin board. After all, nobody reads it they say. I agree wholeheartedly. If their BB's look pathetic, nobody in their right mind would spend a second glancing through it. But I've seen boards that are really eyecatching and encourages the reader to spend minutes going through it. It's fun and the teachers enjoy going through it and reading all your work, even love notes and hate notes mistakenly posted there.

I dream of a BB that functions like Multiply and Facebook and even Blogger. Something that is so interactive and fun that both students and teachers would want to read through it over and over again. Something so innovative that other sections would want to have their own too.

silly christmas list

I go back to being a kid every Christmas.

I first played UNO at a funeral wake when i was about 10. The next time was with Charlie when he was here. The latest was at the XUHS Intramurals with the Realino kids. I bought one for my nieces but it was a beginner deck. I want one that's more complicated and more special cards.
A brand new dog collar for Hershey. Her old one has turned from red to pink. haha!
Shell curtain for our new room. Our tiny room needs some attitude and this shell curtain would be just perfect!

Connie Talbot's Over the Rainbow Album. I discovered her on youtube months ago and i've been listening to her eversince. haha. no cd available in ph!

About 3 or 4 years ago, Shammie introduced me to Corrine May , a Singaporean singer with really soothing songs that could make you cry and lyrics that just blow you away! Her cds are not sold in ph though.

stuck.

20 Things I realized after being stuck at home for the past three days:

1. It feels good to sweep the yard and water the plants again.
2. Its therapeutic to run with Hershey even when its only for about 20 meters.
3. Television shows have evolved.
4. I can cook adobo.
5. I want to learn carpentry.
6. My internet bill will probably balloon next month but with no PAG-IBIG to save me this time.
7. It takes 12 days to expand my castle in Knighthood.
8. Craiglist is addictive.
9. I need to panic before classes begin.
10. Facebook, Multiply, Craiglist, Blogger, and Gmail saved my sanity.
11. Hershey will follow me anywhere except upstairs.
12. I miss mama's cooking.
13. My eyes drop around 1 a.m.
14. I can clean my room in 10 minutes.
15. I'm allergic to detergent powder.
16. Charlie's phone voice changes with each call.
17. Globe Visibility becomes invisible after 5 minutes of talk time.
18. Distance doesn't matter as long as there's GTalk.
19. Our new room excites me more than my upcoming birthday.
20. I saved a lotta money by being stuck home.
